It can get Ugly Is America Ready For a Black President

By Rev. Wayne Perryman
October 28, 2008
Yesterday two skin-heads were arrested after plotting to assassinate Senator Barack Obama. They said the Obama assassination would be preceded by a massacre of 80 black students. While America is rejoicing at the possibility of electing their first black president, they fail to see a potential deadly storm on the horizon, a storm of racial strife and tension if the following happens:
  1. If McCain is elected many will say America is racist and didn’t want a black president. This will cause racial tension.
  2. If Obama is elected and is harshly criticized (like all presidents are during their administration), some will say that he is being criticized because he his black and this too will cause racial tension.
  3. If Obama is assassinated, most will believe that he was assassinated because of his race and that certainly will cause racial tension and even possible violence.
  • Hints of a potential Obama assassination and the possibility of racial conflict have been building for some time. On May 26, 2008, the New York Times reported that: “Senator Hillary Roddam Clinton’s comments regarding something tragic might happen to Senator Obama, was a racist statement.
  • On June 2, 2008, Newsweek reported that 30% of white Democrats said they would never vote for a black to president.
  • On June 4, 2008, Representative James Clyburn reported that after he changed his support from Hillary Clinton to Obama, his office was deluged with nasty phone calls with racial overtones. He said: he was shocked and could not believe this was happening. They called me names I have not heard since the 40’s and the 50’s. The threats were so severe that his staff had to be consoled by other workers and many left work early for their own protection. The callers identified themselves as Hillary Clinton supporters. Congressman Clyburn is the highest ranking African American in Congress.
  • On September 20, 2008, Stanford University released their study which also revealed that 30% of white Democrats would not vote for a black president.
  • Recent reports indicated that membership in white supremacy groups have increased some 400% since Obama was nominated.
Like Jonah sleeping in the bottom of the ship, most white and black pastors are totally unaware of the potential racial storm that can produce hail (hell) the size of softballs, hell that can destroy the institutions of racial harmony that were built since the days of the Civil Rights movement as well as destroy their churches. Our leaders are not preparing for such a storm nor are they trying to divert or lessen the impact if such a storm does occur.
How bad can it get? Some media experts predict a racial war, a war where weapons can be provided by outside terrorist organizations to both sides; a war where students on high school and college campuses can be killed and a war where churches can be bombed, shoppers can be assassinated and fans in stadiums can become innocent victims.
I pray that none of the above will happen. But whether there is an actual storm or not, we should pray for the best and prepare for the worse. It is time for the church to wake up and address the problem that they have ignored for so long. For the past ten years, I have tried to warn and prepare the church for such a time as this with my books, lectures and editorials, but the church today, as it did in the days of the Bible prophets, turned a deaf ear to the cry for us to “come let us reason together.” May the Lord help us all.
